:: BTS new range, white of the night ::

Busy busy busy is shoot day, but when you have the ‘A’ team on board there is a beautiful creative flow and giggles and laughter to break up the stress and intensity of the day. Here are some beautiful Behind the Scenes captures of shoot day and the team of beautiful Byron Bay babes (and a couple of male helpers)  that help pull it together.

We were so excited to also feature amazing jewellery designers Wild Heart Jewellery, Celeste Twikler, Amari Designs, and Meeshka Jewells to compliment our shoot. Extra Special mention to Delphine Racca from Delphine Racca Art who hand made Lindy an incredible knotted headpiece and arm piece for this shoot full of crystals and shells. We can’t wait to reveal the details of this piece! Thank-you Thank-you Thank-you.

We had such a blast shooting with Lindy Klim this weekend on location in Byron Bay.  Thank-you so much to Jodie from Evolution Concierge for looking after us and finding this ahhmazing property ‘The Vantage Over Byron’ to use as Lindy’s pad for the weekend.

The view from the pool over Byron and the hinterland is so spectacular.  We had such a beautiful sunset swim there on the Sunday night after we wrapped the weekends  shoot and that lift came in handy after a long day shooting! Yes this property is so huge and lush it even has a lift to take you to each level! So spoilt!

Here are some snaps we took during our lunch break at The Vantage’ Sunday afternoon where we managed to fit in a little interview with the echonetdaily. Lindy wears wears our skulls to perfection. Bathers by Camilla and Marc.

The gorgeous Helen from Gypsylovinlight always amazes me with her style. Here she wears our Arch Angel Gabrielle kimono in Golden Goddess in total beach goddess style.

So gently she moves with life’s breath and rhythm

Breathing in, breathing out

Her all encompassing wings expanding with each breath

Taking pause in those in between moments

Ever so slowly and mindfully contracting her wings

Each turn bringing forth a greater unfurling

niche

Niche., a place or position particularly suitable to the person or thing in it.

One of our fav things to do is connect with our stockists. As our label is so boutique, its always really exciting to visit the stores that are drawn to our label and see what else they are stocking and up to. We have been stocking our beautiful kimonos in Niche Interiors, Yarraville Victoria for the last 6 months. They are predominately a boutique Interior design retailer, but have decided to stock a few bohemian luxe labels to compliment their eye for interior style. The beautiful Sally and Meagan Anderson own and run this boutique store with a focus on all things interior.

Thanks girls for letting us play dress ups in your gorgeous store! We can’t wait to visit again soon!

We hope you like taking a look inside their store as much as we did!

Byron Bay Mermaids

Seagypsea, Me and the Universe

Sometimes I’ll scroll through instagram and not very often, but sometimes, I come across an image that takes my breath away. An image that speaks to me. It was this way when I came across Pip Summerville’s underwater photography . I new instantly that I MUST contact her and we MUST be friends and creators together. And like a beautiful waterfall that makes its way to the rivers, so has been the flow and forming of our friendship – with such a beautiful ease and grace, like we have been friends for years and already know the cracks, bends and turns of each others rivers. Soul Sisters and Mermaids. Self Creators, Underwater Dreamers, Believers. Waterfall jumpers. River riders. Life sliders.

So grateful for the universe for bringing us together.

It is with absolute delight that I share with you our first underwater psychedelic mermaid shoot we did together in Byron Bay back in August 2013. We decided to make a few more friends along the way so we invited in amazing artists Celeste Twikler, Road Trip Jewellery, Amari Designs and Supa Sundays to be part of the collaboration. Big thank-you to gorgeous Krystal and Fleur for being our gorgeous mermaids for the day. It was soooo freezing cold! They did the most amazing job!

Day Tripp’n to Brauerbirds

Just 15 mins out of Byron Bay, NSW is the cutest little town and my former home town Bangalow. I spent the last four years living in Bangalow before I decided to follow my heart and travel in between Australia and Bali to put 100% into my label and see if I could make some dreams come true.

When I lived in Bangalow, I worked a couple of days a week for Kathy and Ralph Brauer –  Owners of Wholesale Interiors Company ‘Bisque Interiors’ and Fashion and Homewares Boutique ‘Brauerbirds‘. I got to know Kathy really well in this time and loved working in her beautiful store. She has the most incredible eye for detail and styling. When you step into her home you feel like you have stepped on set to a photo shoot for Vogue Living. From candles, to nostalgic home ware pieces, to divine linens and of course exceptional fashions and jewellery. You can get lost in this store (and get poor! lol!).

Kathy has supported my label and my vision from day 1 being the first store to ever stock Lisa’s Closet. I know affirmation comes from within, but when I was starting out I had a lot of doubts about my designs so I was so so grateful for her encouragement and support, and for her continued support of my journey with Lisa’s Closet.

Recently I returned to Byron to catch up with my beautiful sistas Celeste Twikler (also now stocked at Brauerbirds), Lex Weinstein from Gypsealove.blogspot.com.au and total legend and babe Carly Brown (who is responsible for all these amazingly beautiful images) for a little shopping expedition out to Brauerbirds. Work and play tend to overlap in this little gang we have formed, but it seems one love is the same as the other these days. :)

I am so grateful for the sisterhood and support all these women give me in my life. Love working, Love playing, Love road tripp’n and catching the occasional wave with you. Love eating pizza and making cups of tea. Love styling, Love mermaiding… just LOVE your beautiful souls.

A day spent with these gals is time spent over the rainbow.

Big love. x

Musical Postcard From UBUD

Meet Laurent Ambroggiani or ‘FRENCHY’ for short.

I met him in my favourite café SOMA, in UBUD, BALI. We sat down, had some lunch and he got out his guitar and palyed a few songs. He then showed me these amazing musical postcards he has been doing. He’s been making a musical postcards to keep himself focused he says while he is travelling. The idea – choose a song, a good spot, a stranger who has 3 minutes of free time…something simple, spontaneous, and film it and send it out to the world to enjoy.

Well – let’s do it!, I say to him! So 15 minutes later we are walking the street of UBUD to Brittany Spears. So much fun and so so much LOVE to you FRENCHY. A shining Angel walking the streets of this world bringing JOY to so may around you!

Check out all his Musical postacards at his BLOGSPOT http://thetravelisbetterthanthegoal.blogspot.com/

<<:: LIVE IN THE LIGHT ::>>

I met Lex  from gypsealove.blogspot only a few months ago and the connection was instant. Not only is she bab’n  and delicious on the outside – a Byron Bay goddess version of Sarah-Jessica Parker (true – check out her legs on the Lisa’s Closet shop website) but she is a true beauty on the inside. She has two feet on the ground, a mermaid in her heart and pure white Angel light in her soul. What I love about her is she has decided to live BIG, instead of worrying about what other people think and staying small. She has decided to SHINE, and in doing so you can’t help but light up yourself when you spend time with her…well that certainly is my experience :)

DARE to FLARE…I’m pretty sure both Lex and I share the same whimsical notion that we were born in the wrong era. That somehow we landed in the 90′s when we were sure we were supposed to have been responsible for starting some revolutions in the 60-’s and 70′s. Oh well, the only thing to do is re-invent it! I hope you enjoy this fun shoot by the incredible Carly Brown that captures Lex Bo-Ho styl’n at The Pass, Byron Bay, Australia in our new 70′s Vibe Tie Die for Kimono, Chocolate Swirl Kimono, Mustard Flares and Cactus Jam Kimono. Also featuring Bikinis by REEF,  One-Piece L.SPACE , Denim by WILD & FREE  Ring BAHGSU JEWELLS, Shell Bracelets PUKA KISSES log by DEADKOOKS.

Shine on Beautiful Super Styl’n woman. Don’t ever dim your light.

Byron Town

Whoop! Back in Byron with my gals. Have had such an amazing week hanging out with such gorgeous creative people.  Its been so amazing to get back to Byron for a bit and hang out in the amazing sunshine. WOW as much as I am loving my life in Bali nothing compares to the beauty of Byron Bay and the Northern Beaches. Thanks for turning it on for me Byron. It’s been blue skys and sunshine ever since I arrived.

I’m here to shoot my new look book and collaborate with some amazing creative on few other shoots. I’m sure you have seen some sneak peaks on what’s been happening and what’s coming up on Instagram.

There’s been styling, skating, and a martini thrown in here and there with my gorgeous new bestie Lex Weinstein from Gypsealove. We both missed our connecting flight to Byron in Malaysia and ended up killing time together while we waited for the next flight. The connection was instant. Kindred spirits. :) .. I think we’ve nearly hung out now every day since! An amazing soul – check out her blog! Full of fashion, art, honesty and integrity.

There’s also been underwater mermaiding and buffalo head decorating with my beautiful friend Celeste from Celeste Twikler Jewellery. As you can see she make the most beautiful bohemian-luxe jewells. I’m obsessed!  And then there has been photo shoots with my beautiful friend Carly with cups of tea and conversations about boys, life, work and philosophy in between!

Get all of us together and this BLOG is the result. A beautiful visual interpretation by Carly of our amazing creative lives that we are leading and extremely grateful for.

I hope you enjoy these images by Carly Brown Photography. Thanks Carls, love your guts, You’re the best! x

Seagypsy

Every once in a while you see something and it makes your heart skip a beat.  I recently stumbled across the beautiful underwater photography of Phillippa Summerville (who more appropriately goes by her Instagram alias ‘Seagypseaa’ ).  I knew straight away that I wanted to shoot with this kindred spirit and within minutes we insta-messaging each other and within days we had insta-organised a shoot.

With this intention set, it wasn’t long before a few other mermaids caught wind of possibility of some underwater magic. Road Trip Jewellery presented us with some sea jewells and Lotus & Lime flew their beach-kissed wraps all the way from Hawaii to join the collaboration. Such a treat to be accompanied but such beautiful, creative talents all working hard to follow their dreams and make their lives a creative reality.

Tasha from Gypsy Wandering was the perfect choice to play and frolic and float in our silks and beautiful treasures. Already living the epitome of a salty nomadic lifestyle, Tasha transformed to her alter ego and shone like an angelic gypsy of the sea.

Such a divine gift to collaborate with all these beautiful  women full of love, creativity and light. We hope you enjoyed the shoot. x

With LOVE from…

GILI MENO

Where do you holiday if your life is already paradise? Well, just a one hour drive and one hour fast boat ride from UBUD lies another version of Balinese paradise – the Gili Islands. Gili Meno is the smallest of the islands and the quietest (well it’s quiet when we’re not there!).

White sand beaches, aqua marines, turtles, scissor tailed sergeants (they’re a cute little fish I have always loved ever since I was a dive instructor millions of years ago), cocktails, horse and cart rides, friendly locals (at a price of course!), magical massage, beach sleep, sunshine and ‘Vitamin D’, BBQ’d snapper, volleyball, hammocks, long strolls and champagne sunsets. Ahhhhhh.

To make you feel better I will mention that the sea lice do bite and are little suckers (notice I started that word with an ‘s’ not ‘f’), the mosquito net didn’t quite touch so we weren’t quite sure of the purpose – although it added an air of romantic ambiance to our room. For the bargain price of $35 we did purchase a lovely room with a view. Sleeps 2 (thumbs up), included breakfast (thumbs up), but no hot water (thumbs down).  Oh, and every now and then, the second world problem of rubbish (caused by us first worldarians) reared it’s ugly head. For your visual entertainment and pleasure, I left those photos off the blog :)

.. but as the saying goes ‘its not where you are but who you are with that is important’.   Gili Meno island is a paradise…but sharing it with friends makes it perfection. It was the perfect 4 day escape for a musician and her 15 year old son, a designer, and a psychologist.   Whacky, weird and wonderful. Just the way I like it.

I hope you enjoyed the cute Ukulele song at the end!  ‘Gili Meno’ is written and performed by the very talented Miss Ilona Harker.

Photography was a group effort by all of us, Ilona, Tash, Kaelan and I.

ps. nude sun-baking is strictly prohibited on this island. ;)

Dance Around Your Living Room..

and she dances around her living room and she sings…

….’I'm going to be strong, I’m going to have a heart like a lion, like David and Gallieth, I’m going to sing loud, going to stand tall, and in this world of war, let me be your peaceful companion, and we’ll be the last one standing, and shine a light into the dark…

…beautiful song lyrics by Dustin Thomas

In 2013 we release LUXE lounge wear that feels barely there! It’s designed to make you feel sexy effortless and luxurious…so you’ll want to dance around your living room. Wear the shorts as boxers, or step out into the world as a Lady of Leopard. MEOW.

We proudly do not mass produce our clothing.  Each Bathrobe pictured is individually hand painted and custom made for every customer. 100% silk and hand-painted in accordance with ancient batik practice – this beautiful handmade process transcends to the wearer. The Leopard Lounge Kimono and the Leopard Lounge Shorts are 100% cotton, and Batik screen printed, as are the silk leopard shorts.

A WARRIOR PRINCESS

Sky above her, Earth below her, Fire Within her.

She lives by the sea, but her mind soars with the sky.  She soaks up all that is around her. A hunter and gatherer of all that is, was and ever will be.

She seeks, she weeps, she soars, she roars – the journey of a WARRIOR PRINCESS.

In 2013 we celebrate our signature ‘Arch Angel Gabrielle’ Kimono and release a sophisticated color palette fit for a Warrior Princess.

‘One piece – One person’.  These one of a kind kimonos are hand painted in accordance with ancient batik practice. A labor of love and a luxury for any woman’s wardrobe.

Our cute little BTS VID:

Crystal ‘LUST HAVES’ by Celeste Twikler

Every now and then you just stumble upon something that you love..and sometimes it has a beautiful story to match.

I recently had a little gathering at a close friends house for a private preview viewing of the Lisa’s Closet 2013 collection. Much to my delight, fellow designer Celeste Twikler was there! Long lost acquaintances from our days of living in Melbourne, it was rare to stumble upon each other in Byron Bay.

I noticed the ring she was wearing straight away as it was a amethyst ring, which happens to be my birth stone. Celeste proceeded to tell me a powerful story about the ring. She had a friend come and look at her new range when she was beginning to make the rings. The friend seemed negative and told Celeste she didn’t think it was a great idea. When this friend then touched Celeste’s ring a small piece broke off the ring where she touched it. Amethyst crystals are known for their protective energy.

I loved this story and I loved the ring, so I proceed to look at other samples she had. Unfortunately none fitted like the ring she had on her own finger. Graciously she offered that ring to me, knowing that I was soon to embark on a journey to live overseas. A ring to keep myself and my son protected. I have been wearing the ring every day and really do feel the energy from it.

Thank-you Celeste, for sharing this very special ring with me! My son and I do feel very protected here in Bali and I love looking down at it and remembering your story. Celeste’s Jewellery (plus her beautiful illustrations) can be found on her website www.celestetwikler.com

Look Book Shoot – Beauty in the Rubble

Beauty in the Rubble. Left to her own devices she could start a revolution…this car yard was the perfect location to turn her from ‘femme’ to ‘femme fatale’.

This shoot was deliberately styled to inspire you to step out with an edge. Don’t be scared to make an IMPACT.

Our gorgeous collection of hand painted kimonos have a beautiful bohemian design inspired by ancient cultures, the desert and divinity, however, the real beauty lies within the production. Beautifully handcrafted, these kimonos go by the mantra ‘one piece one person’ as each kimono is produced using ancient batik hand painting methods. Each kimono is hand drawn, hand waxed and then hand painted meaning each kimono is truly individual.

This handcrafted journey transcends luxury and beauty to the wearer.

The Native Navajo kimono featured in these pictures is our longest length available at 105cm. It is also avail in 85cm length. The skull kimono, Cactus Jam Kimono and Arch Angel Gabrielle Kimono are pictured in 85cm length and although amazing as is, they look great also belted as a dress.

Thank-you to Spell Designs and Brauerbirds for lending us clothing, shoes and accessories to complement our shoot! x A special thank-you to Max Garrido from Shoot for everybody for giving up his time to shoot a very awesome behind the scenes video. Amazing!

Look Book Shoot – The Tiny Forest

For the whimsical. This cute little miniature forest was the perfect little setting to shoot our ‘Little Rainbow Riding Hood Cloak’ and our ‘Gypsy Love kimono’.  Up bright an early it took a few coffees a a bit of sun before we got into the swing of it.

Our Gypsy Love kimono is part of our Hand Painted Kimono Collection. This kimono has a beautiful bohemian design inspired by gypsy patterns – but the real beauty lies within the production. Beautifully handcrafted, these kimonos go by the mantra ‘one piece one person’ as each kimono is produced using ancient batik hand painting methods. It is hand drawn, hand waxed and then hand painted meaning each kimono is truly individual. This handcrafted journey transcends luxury and beauty to the wearer.

The Gypsy kimono featured in these pictures is our longest length available at 105cm.  It is also avail in 85cm length.  So versatile – you can wear this trans-seasonal piece all year round and wear it open or belted as a dress!

The Little Rainbow Riding Hood Cloak is completely made by hand and the ‘piece de resistance’ for any woman with a bohemian spirit.

Thank-you to Spell Designs and Brauerbirds for lending us clothing, shoes and accessories to complement our shoot! x A special thank-you to Max Garrido from Shoot for everybody for giving up his time to shoot a very awesome behind the scenes video.  Amazing!

Our SKULL kimono features on ‘The Chubby Fashionista’s’ BLOG

We were so flattered recently to be approached by fashion blogger ‘The Chubby Fashionista’ to have our SKULL kimono featured in their latest shoot with Black Milk Leggings. We’re loving this wintery shoot!  It was shot around the northern rivers and the last few shots were done in my very own backyard under an old wintery tree that had just started shedding its leaves.   We hope you enjoy it too!

Our SKULL kimono is certainly designed for the Femme Fatale. Beautifully handcrafted, these kimonos go by the mantra ‘one peice one person’ as each kimono is produced using ancient batik hand painting methods. It is hand drawn, hand waxed and then hand painted meaning each kimono is truly individual. The handcrafted journey of this piece transcends luxury and beauty to the wearer. This kimono can be worn open or belted as a dress – Whatever way you choose to wear our SKULL kimono you will be sure to turn heads…actually it will be more like whiplash!

Leggings and swimsuit pictured by Black Milk Clothing. Other clothing used in this shoot were provided by stylist Mel Carrero for ‘The Chubby Fashionista’.

To be or not to be…NAKED (Part 1)

Welcome to part 1 of a 4 part series about naked swimming.

Before I start I just want to say one thing. Dad – if your reading this then logout now. Don’t read anything further. There are just some things that father and daughter don’t need to share and this is probably one of them! Right! Moving forward. To be or not to be NAKED..

..Recently I was at the beach with my son when a couple of women walked to the waters edge, stripped off and walked boldly and effortlessly before me into the ocean to serenade their bodies in the salt water sea. Something in my belly gave me butterflies. It dawned on me I was JEALOUS. Yes – it’s fair to say that I had NAKED SWIM ENVY. As I stood there in my bathing suit lycra, all I could think to myself was “I’m lame!”. Well, time to face some fears and break down some barriers me thinks. No more ‘naked swim envy’. I’m going to be like those women that plunged into the ocean before me! So listen up mother nature – at the end of this little exercise I better damn well have the ‘free spirited glow’…or else!

The next day I go for a swim at a fairly secluded beach in the area with my friend. I am a 33 year old women with a 3 year old child and she is a gorgeous 21 year old ukulele playing sex kitten ( bless her gorgeous little ass ;) ). I start telling her how I want to do a series of 4 naked swims and blog in search of the ‘free spirited glow’. As I’m talking to her she strips off her bikini and says ‘Let’s do it! No time like the present!’( Clearly there’s no naked swimming hangs ups living inside her! ). Well, I wasn’t expecting that! I thought I had more time to prepare and I am surprised to find that faced with the opportunity I am finding it harder than I thought it would be. I don’t feel ready and I have to ask myself “what are you waiting for?’’. I hesitate and try and think of excuses not to do it today. Shit! I can’t think of any! And there is my beautiful friend basking in her nakedness laughing at me telling me to hurry up as she makes her way to the ocean’s edge.

WOW, this is a bigger issue for me than I even thought and I’m surprised at how fast my heart has started to beat! I’m doing it – I’m taking off my top. That’s not such a big deal – it’s the removable of the bottoms that I find the hardest step. I let out a scream – of terror, of excitement and my friend just laughs at me. Ok, I’m naked and I’m walking and it’s hilarious how amazing and insecure I feel at the same time. On one hand I love it. I’m sticking it to my fears! Then I spot tiny people in the distance and feel paranoid that they can see me. I feel really insecure about my breasts. I resist the urge to cover them over with my hands. They’re scarred with stretch marks. They never really did defy gravity, but after breastfeeding I really do feel like my little one really did suck most of the life out of them.  (And I’m sure if you’re a mum reading this you will have your own battle scars that pre or post pregnancy gave your body.) After about 30 secs things start to settle down and then I start to feel really exhilarated. I can feel my insecurities start to leave me and I feel like the naked swim glow starts to fill me up and take over. The insecurities linger and then I just have that moment where I’m just completely and utterly sick of those thoughts so I decide to just tell them to FUCK OFF. Who fucking cares?! I just want to be loved and love myself for all that I am. I just want to enjoy my life! In that small brief moment swimming I let it go and accept myself. The water feel s soft and luscious and my friend and I are laughing and giggling like little girls. Both in awe of how beautiful the world seems right here in this moment. It felt AMAZING.

Something small had changed in me when I left the ocean and headed for the towel. I felt more like myself. Couldn’t really describe it other than just that. I just felt like I had been a really good friend to myself.. . a bit like how I feel when I finish a yoga session. It’s always such a mind struggle for me to get to yoga, but once I am finished I am so so grateful to myself that I did. Yes, that’s it. That’s what I felt walking out. Grateful. Now some of you reading this will be like my friend and find this no big deal, but I’m fairly certain that there will be quite a few of you that read this that like me are not that comfortable getting naked. I know this because I have a lot of friends who would refer to me as free spirited (which we have now exposed as not the case).

So ..do I have the glow I hear you ask?! Hmmmm. I think that’s why I set myself a series of 4 naked swims. I’m not sure you can just go for one naked swim and get the ‘free spirited glow’. I definitely am feeling proud of myself. I am definitely feeling happy. I definitely want to do it again. But am I glowing yet? I’d say there’s a little flame inside that just started burning…

… Stay tuned for Naked Swim 2!

Happiness is…Old and Gold

This pic is for my dad. He was a champion cricketer. Love you Dad. x

Ask any of my friends and they’ll tell you I’m not a morning person!

It’s true. The hardest part about becoming a mother (and still something to this day I struggle to comes to terms with) is the loss of the morning sleep in. However..there is one day a year where I miraclulously become cured of this disease and find myself springing out of bed ready and eager to start the day.  Cold, wet, early. Who cares! It only comes around once a year.  It’s Old and Gold day in Brunswick Heads. It’s the day a whole town goes on garage sale and it is truly for me one of the best days of the year.  I would go as far as saying…

…Brunswick Old and Gold, You are my Australia day!

On this momentous day, not only do the locals invite us into their back yards to tempt us with their trash..or is it treasure?  (Well that’s up to you!), but the local bric a brac and vintage collectors seize the opportunity to set up in ‘good friends backyards’. So – all you need to do to enjoy this day is have an early breakfast and coffee (tick) be happy to stroll (tick) be a lover of things from bygone eras (tick) be a talker (tick) bring a friend to have fun with (tick) set a budget (tick) and have a eye for a bargain (tick). For me, it’s not everyday I tick all the boxes of the requirements of the day. On the odd occasion that this happens..well.. I like to refer to this as ‘happiness’. Old and Gold Garage Sale day, Brunswick Heads.’ What dreams are made of.

Hope you enjoy the pics as much as I enjoyed being there taking them! Special thanks to Christina for tagging along with me and letting me nag her all day to take photos.  I am in serious need of a phone upgrade? Anyone selling an iphone cheap or want to donate to the Lisa desperately needs an iphone cause? ..leave your comments below. ;)

Lisa’s Closet Look Book Shoot – Part 1

It must be the best part of having a fashion label. The Look Book shoot.

It was my birthday so we kicked off our shoot at whites beach with champagne and strawberries! Woo Hoo! The weather wasn’t looking good when we arrived, so like Noah with the sea, we turned our heads to the sky. ALAS ALACK the heavans must have been listening…blue skies for the rest of the day!  Whoops forgot the sunscreen.  I’m not going back up those stairs for it. Oh well me thinks ( a decision Lisa the Lobster lives to regret!) .

Anyway – I wanted to share this shoot with you. I truly find this absolutely the most fun and exciting part of having your own fashion  label.  The part when you get to style it and be creative and see your vision become a reality. So – I have included some behind the scenes shots so you can feel like you were there with us! Hope you enjoy.

Oh one more thing…its probably worth a mention that my gorgeous friend Jillian – the model in this shoot is forty. Yes that’s right 4.0.   Clearly someone needs to talk to GOD or the higher entities above. The gene pool system clearly isn’t fair!

Model: Jillian Middleton

Photographer: Kat Charles,

Stylist: Alyssa Grant/Lisa Wright

 Kimonos: Lisa’s Closet

Each of the kimonos you see in the shoot have a contemporary bohemian design, but the beauty is in the production. This kimono is produced by hand using ancient batik hand painting methods. It is hand drawn, hand waxed and then hand painted meaning each peice is truly individual. Sourced from the past and the present to give the wearer something for the future. The handcrafted journey of this peice transcends luxury and beauty to the wearer.

Fashion + Friendship = FUN

Is it just me or is that sun setting way too early?! Winter boredom is already settling in. What do you do between the hours of 5pm and 8pm in winter? Spoilt by 9 months of summer each year winter is becoming quite the shock to the system! Lucky I have some spectacular friends that I can always rely on to keep the spark alive alive through these treacherous months!

I was honored to be on the receiving end of an sms inviting me to an impromptu clothes swap party: Women Only. Bring your trash – for someone else to treasure..and RED WINE..and chocolate!

You Don’t have to ask me twice!

After a quick poke around in my garage sale pile I popped in the car and headed to meet my gorgeous girls. Pour a glass of red, throw it all in the middle (the clothes..not the red!), and have some fun with fashion! Get daggy, get sassy, get retro..just get into it! As the saying goes..’One woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure’. Not only did I have a beautiful night with friends – I totally scored! Time to sms your girlfriends me thinks!!

WHO IS YOUR DIVINE INTERVENTION?

I was honoured to be asked to be bridesmaid for my beautiful friend Mandy Alderson (now Mandy Hanmore) last October.

The weather was being a little crazy (actually very crazy!) so we got ready with our angel wing kimonos on hoping this might inspire some ‘divine intervention’.

As we all know, true friends are hard to come by. Mandy is one of those people that I can just be myself around. Laugh, dance, cry, be still – it doesn’t matter what we do together it is really is what is unspoken between us that is so special. It can just be a glance or a look across the room and nothing else needs to be said.

We met in Melbourne when I advertised for a flat mate. I had another flat mate at the time and she desperately wanted Mandy to move in. I liked Mandy but wasn’t too fussed, so we took her in and decided to give her a go! Much to my other flatmates horror Mandy and I became instant friends sharing dinners, yoga, love for tea and enthusiasm for television DVD series such as ALIAS!!

One day I came home crying because I had just been told from my boyfriend that he had cheated on me a few weeks earlier (he told me this 2 hours after we signed a lease to move in together!). I was really sad and went to my room. Mandy was so beautiful. She left me for 5 minutes and then crept into my room with a fresh brew of my favourite herbal tea in our favourite glass tea pot. She put it next to my bed and said “I’m just going to leave this here and leave, but I’m just outside if you need me and want to talk about it’’. She left and 5 minutes later she was in bed with me and we were both drinking herbal tea and talking about what happened.
It is still such a beautiful friendship memory for me and something I will never forget.

A few weeks later she met an Irish Guy called Roch who was kind of working and kind of a backpacker. He was a charmer and he started to steal Mandy’s heart very quickly. Myself and another close friend were worried that he was going to break her heart, but were also trying to be supportive of her but I remember thinking, “Unfortunately, I don’t think it be long until I’m making herbal tea in that teapot for Mandy’’.

Nearly 4 years on and I’ve never had to make that pot of tea. Roch and Mandy were married in October 2011 in a beautiful ceremony overlooking Byron Bay. They are one of those couples that make you want to get hitched (even if you’ve already decided marriage is not your thing). Not a dry eye in the house that day and such a beautiful family to be part of.

They are loving, supportive and kind to each other and inspirational for me.

Mandy – thanks for being an amazing friend and an inspiration in my life. You are my ‘divine intervention’.

MY PHILOSOPHY – CELEBRATE THE DIVINE

I wanted to share with you how Lisa’s Closet came about.

Last year I spent 6 weeks in Bali with my son Hamilton. While I was there I created a silk kimono with angel wings on the back. It was inspired from a photo of a girl that I had on my laptop that had angel wings tattooed down her back. Prior to leaving Bali I got talked in to visiting a well known physic in the area. Upon my visit she told me that I had Arc Angel ‘Gabrielle’ with me on my life journey at the moment and that I would be very successful if I started a business. She then went on to tell me that I would come back to Bali within 9 months and I would start importing from Bali. Of course I thought this was pretty funny at the time. When I got back to Australia I bought 12 angel wing kimonos with me to try and sell to make a little extra cash. I took them into a friends store to steam them. In the next two hours, just from wearing it I sold 5. I took them to the market the next day and sold out. AMAZING! Hence, the idea of Lisa’s Closet sprung to life. I started coming up with the ideas and concepts and designing a range.

As I started getting to a point where I needed to really make a decision as to whether I was really going to follow this path, I was feeling really fearful. All sorts of thoughts started buzzing around in my head, such as “what if it doesn’t work?, who am I to design clothes? Will people just laugh at me?”. When it was crunch time to make a decision I went to the beach. I just looked up in the sky and said to myself “please give me a sign if I should do this or not”. I was just about to book a ticket back to Bali and I really had to decide if I was really going to do it. I couldn’t eat. I was so nervous. I went and meet friends at a BBQ for breakfast. While I was sitting there a woman that I had never met before (a mum of one of my friends) looked at me and said out of the blue ‘did you know you have Arch Angel Gabrielle with you at the moment?’. She was an angel reader. She told me that there were gold specs all around me. I told her about Bali and what the reader there had said and she agreed that I should start the business.

So – I took this as my sign and fearful as I was I went home and booked my ticket to Bali. Now Lisa’s Closet has truly begun and you are all part of this journey that continues to unfold! Thank-you for being here with me. My message to all “feel the fear and do it anyway!”.x
